PAST EVENTS

Journey to the Divine: Umrah Trip

Monthly Brothers/Sisters Halaqahs

This trip will take students on a sacred pilgrimage to the cities of Madinah and Makkah, curated especially for the members of Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Toronto Scarborough, and in association with the esteemed Muslim Chaplaincy of the University of Toronto.

The monthly brothers halaqahs and sisters halaqahs are sessions for students to learn from qualified teachers and deepen their knowledge about various Islamic topics.

Marhaba Dinner

Charity Week

The Marhaba Dinner is an annual dinner hosted by the MSA to welcome the student community at the start of the school year and help bring everyone together.

Charity Week is also another initiative which runs annually. It features a week full of events that help to raise funds for orphans and needy children around the world. Examples include bake sales, games, dinners, and more.

Frosh

The MSA Frosh is an annual series of events at the start of the school year. Students, incoming and current, are welcomed with lots of fun, food and games. Each year, the MSA Frosh has a different theme and the theme of Frosh 2023 was History Unraveled. It featured four events, including a High Tea event, scavenger hunts, and an opportunity to attend the MAC Convention.

Navigating the Workplace as a Muslim

The Navigating the Workplace as a Muslim conference is an event that invites Muslim professionals from various fields to speak about their experiences and help inspire and empower Muslim students. It's a place for Muslims to gain advice about pressing issues related to the workplace. The conference also provides an opportunity for networking with speakers and attendees.

Qira'atul Qur'an Competition

The Qira’atul Quran Competition (QQC) aims to rekindle the Muslim spirit within the North American Muslim student community through Qur'an recitation and reflection. This platform allows young Muslim students to come together to celebrate God's divine word by memorising and reciting the Qur'an. It gives the community the opportunity to improve their Imaan by either striving to improve their recitation of the Qur'an or by enjoying an evening of beautiful recitation and worship.

Islamic Awareness Week

Islamic Awareness Week features a range of enlightening events related to Islam. It's an opportunity to learn and engage with the community. The goal is to spread knowledge on various important topics about Islam and students are invited to learn about this beautiful religion, it's principles and beliefs, and clear up any misconceptions.

Project Downtown

Project Downtown is an annual care package initiative, and in 2024, the focus was on the GTA. The MSA created 300 relief kits in Jam’e Masjid Markham to distribute to refugees in churches from different ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds across the GTA.
